What is a freight handler?

A freight handler, also known as a material handler or dock worker, is responsible for loading and unloading cargo and packages from trucks, trains or planes, and moving it to storage areas or transportation vehicles.

Freight handlers use equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move the cargo. They may also package and label items for shipment, check for damage or discrepancies, and communicate with other workers and supervisors to ensure that the cargo is moved efficiently and safely.

Freight handlers work in a variety of industries, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution. They may be employed by trucking companies, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and logistics providers.

This is a physically demanding job that requires lifting and moving heavy objects, working in all weather conditions, and sometimes working at night or early in the morning. It can also be a dangerous job if proper safety protocols are not followed. Therefore, freight handlers must be trained on safety procedures and equipment operation before they can start working.
